From Deepak to Tupak!

Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
or you yourself will be just like him.
Answer a fool according to his folly,
or he will be wise in his own eyes.
Proverbs 26:4-5

The torrential downpour all day Saturday and Sunday wiped out all weekend activities except lounging around the house and doing nothing except having my wife wait on me hand and foot! While enjoying a washed-out Sunday, I surfed the television shows. I happened to come across a PBS fundraiser telecast featuring a man who reminded me of Coach Joe Paterno, the former Penn State Head Football coach. He was standing in what looked like a cross between a theater and a cheap church auditorium and had the rapt attention of an audience glued to his every word.

The man's name was Deepak Chopra. I had never seen this man before so I was curious as to what he was talking about. It did not take me very long to realize that he was a new age charlatan guru hawking his new book and line of "spiritual" products to assist his disciples in developing their spiritual potential. This guy had everything covered - oils, lip balm, tee shirts, incense burners, meditation scarfs, coffee mugs, candle holders, meditative music CDs, cookbooks, tongue cleaners, antioxidant jam, beach bags, incense and a host of other "spiritual" accessories. Talk about snake oil salesmen! Also, for a significant donation to PBS you could receive a set of Chopra's lectures on self-enlightenment. Personally, I think the only thing being "enlightened" was the wallet of his suckers - I mean "disciples"!

While watching Deepak's rambling and pointless presentation, I was suddenly overcome by the "spirit" of Tupak Shakur! Everything became so clear to me as I had a Saul-on-the-road-to-Damascus moment of revelation! Immediately, I understood such wisdom does not come by the study and understanding of the holy scriptures but by revelation from within and the smelling of some specially scented incense. Quotes from deep thinkers like Tupak and other rappers and cultural influencers that formerly made no sense to me now illuminated my mind with crystal like clarity.  Check out some of my spiritual insights to Tupak's and Deepak's quotes:

I believe that everything that you do bad comes back to you. So everything that I do that's bad, I'm going to suffer from it. But in my mind, I believe what I'm doing is right. So I feel like I'm going to heaven. - Tupak

Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real. - Tupak

I'M DREAMING THAT REALITY IS REAL!

Nothing is more important than reconnecting with your bliss. Nothing is as rich. Nothing is more real. - Deepak

I guess ignorance is really bliss. If ignorance is the end goal of our existence, why do I need any assistance getting there?

Happiness is a continuation of happenings which are not resisted. - Deepak

MAKES ME WANT TO SING.........

Unfortunately, my spiritual enlightenment was short lived! The thrill of enlightenment was overcome by the agony of self-realization when I realized my coffee cup was empty. Reality had just slapped me upside the head and all the positive thinking and personal meditation I could muster did not bring relief to me as my coffee cup remained empty. Resorting back to my "old antiquated and unenlightened thinking," I called to my wife for help. She brought me a fresh cup of black coffee, and after a couple of delicious sips, I returned to my previously experienced spiritual nirvana of bliss by continuing to watch Deepak Chopra!

It continually amazes me how the world and many Christians will run after every so-called spiritual guide no matter how bizarre or normal they look, speak, or write.

Jesus said in John 4:5-6:
They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

As our culture turns further and further away from God and His Holy Word, true wisdom and insight are ridiculed and rejected while nonsense and confusion grow and destroy unabated. There will be no shortage of charlatans and false Christ promoting their religious philosophies and worldviews as there are plenty of gullible sheep to be sheered. Our job as Christians is to continually expose, confront, and even ridicule these false apostles of error and advance the kingdom of God through the power of the Holy Spirit, discipleship, and the confidence we have in God's guiding providence - not through silly and nonsensical sayings and sound bites.

Stay Holy, My Friends!
